SI Canada is publishing a report on December 8 on the financialization of housing. During this webinar, the report's authors will discuss key findings from the report, and will then be joined by panelists to explore the challenges, opportunities and potential innovative solutions to creating a housing system that works for everyone.

Why this report?
SI Canada's social innovation lab called "The Financialization for Housing: A Social Innovation approach to a better housing system" aims to understand the growing influence of financial instruments, institutions, and investors in local housing markets.

The lab is one of 48 active labs across the country held under the National Housing Strategy’s Solutions Labs. During the first phase, we engaged with over 100 participants from multiple sectors to conduct individual and group interviews, and conducted secondary research including a comprehensive literature review of policy and academic documents, and historical datasets. By bringing together the perspectives of different actors within the housing system, this report provides a common framework to understand this complex issue and lay the groundwork for cross-sectoral collaboration.

The next phase of the lab will work with selected participants to identify viable solutions to the financialization of housing, prototype solutions and create a roadmap for implementation and scaling.

SI Canada publiera le 8 décembre prochain un rapport sur son travail autour de la financiarisation du logement. Durant ce webinaire, les auteur.trice.s du rapport discuteront des principaux constats présentés dans le rapport, avant d'être rejoint.e.s par un panel d'expert.e.s pour débattre des défis, des opportunités et des possibles solutions innovantes liés au développement d'un système du logement qui fonctionne pour tout le monde.

Pourquoi ce rapport?
Le laboratoire d'innovation sociale de SI Canada intitulé « Une approche d’innovation sociale pour améliorer le système de logement » tente de comprendre l'influence croissante des instruments financiers, des institutions et des investisseurs dans les marchés immobiliers locaux.

Ce laboratoire est l'un des 48 laboratoires actifs menés dans le cadre des laboratoires de solutions de la Stratégie nationale sur le logement. Durant la première phase, nous avons sollicité la participation de plus de 100 personnes issues de différents secteurs pour conduire des entretiens individuels et groupés. Nous avons également effectué des activités de recherche secondaire, dont une revue des documents de politiques publiques, des sources académiques et des bases de données existantes sur le sujet. Parce qu'il inclut les perspectives de différents acteurs du système de logement, ce rapport fournit un cadre de travail commun pour aborder la problématique de la financiarisation du logement d'un point de vue multi-sectoriel.

La prochaine étape de notre laboratoire se concentrera sur l'identification et le prototypage de solutions innovantes à la financiarisation du logement, et sur la création d'une feuille de route pour leur implémentation.
